A Kansas City man has been convicted of shooting the victim in a moving car

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A Kansas City man was sentenced Friday to 23 years in prison after shooting and killing a man in 2023.

Jackson County District Attorney Jean Peters Baker announced that on November 15, 2024, 39-year-old Ibrahim Abdikarim Sharif Ahmed received two sentences for his role in a fatal shooting:

  • Second-degree murder: 18 years
  • Armed criminal action: 5 years

Court documents show that on March 15, 2023, the Kansas City Police Department was dispatched to the area near Independence Avenue and Garfield Avenue after a witness saw a man being pushed from a moving car.

The victim, later identified as Abdullahi Yussuf, was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Another witness later came forward and said he was in the car with the suspect, Sharif Ahmed, and the victim, Yussuf, when he heard gunshots and saw blood on Yussuf’s face. Sharif Ahmed told him to get Yussuf out of the car.

Sharif Ahmed was allegedly drunk when the crime took place. On September 16, 2024, he was found guilty of both felony charges under an Alford plea.

His sentence, totaling 23 years, will be served consecutively.
