‘These threats are not jokes’: 17-year-old accused of saying he would blow up Volusia school

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 17-year-old boy arrested this week in Volusia County is accused of threatening to blow up his school, according to the sheriff’s office.

The boy allegedly posted on Instagram that he was going to blow up the Richard Milburn Academy, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement, adding that the teenager told deputies he was only joking.

“These threats are no joke, and the criminal consequences are real,” the statement said.

The 17-year-old is charged with making a written or electronic threat to a school, according to the sheriff’s office.
