GEORGETOWN, SC (WCSC) – The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office said Saturday that a middle school student has been charged with threatening violence against the school.

The student’s name has not been released due to her age. but Sheriff Carter Weaver said the student attends Georgetown Middle School.

Investigators determined the student threatened to shoot up the school on Snapchat if former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson lost a televised match Friday night.

“She claimed it was a joke,” said sheriff’s spokesman Jason Lesley.

Deputies found no firearms in the Powell Road home, he said.

The student will be charged with school threats and will also be subject to the Georgetown County School District’s disciplinary policy.
