Winnipeg police have released images of the man wanted in the October machete attack

Winnipeg police have released photos taken from video surveillance to help identify a person involved in a machete attack last month.

Police previously said the victim, a 56-year-old man, was walking east on Ellice Avenue near Beverley Street around 4:15 a.m. on Oct. 25 when a person he did not know approached him from behind .

Police were called to the Health Sciences Center in downtown Winnipeg at 5:05 a.m. on a report of an injured man who showed up at the hospital with life-changing injuries from a gun attack.

The attack was unprovoked, police previously said.

Police previously described the suspect as a man about 5-foot-10 with a thin build and long black hair. He was last seen wearing black and white Nike Air Jordan shoes, dark pants and a dark hooded sweatshirt with “02” on the back, police said in an updated statement Saturday.

The age of the attacker is unknown, police said.

The Major Crimes Unit is continuing its investigations and is asking for the public’s help in identifying the person accused in the attack.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Winnipeg police at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477 (TIPS) or online at winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
