Ekurhuleni Disaster Emergency Management Services (DEMS) are continuing to investigate an industrial plant fire that caught fire after a huge explosion at 45 Power and Railway Street in Germiston on Friday evening.

It is reported that when DEMS arrived, flames were above the roof and the fire was already spreading to the neighboring business. The operator of the machine is believed to have been working on the furnace that was burning the tires during the explosion.

DEMS spokesperson Eric Maloka says a machine operator was found with serious burns and was taken to the nearest hospital.

“A machine operator was transported to the nearest medical facility with serious burns. We say that now the fire is well kept. They connected the water from the hydrant next to the company and use the relay system. They connected the main pump and this is the tank that was right next to the stage. They used four pumps to attack the fire, right now the fire is contained.”

#CoE Emergency services have brought under control the fire which broke out late at night at an industry in Germiston.
