Tom Petty Estate Shares New Video for 'Never Be You'

The estate of the late Tom Petty has released a music video for the previously unreleased “Never Be You” from his new “Long After Dark (Deluxe Edition).”

The video was directed and animated by Emmy Award winner Jeff Scher, who has also worked for Bob Dylan, Paul Simon and Graham Nash.

The video showcases Jeff’s kaleidoscopic style of hundreds of drawings that he colors and paints with a variety of mediums to bring them to life to great effect.

Tom Petty once said of the album, “There was some music recorded for Long After Dark that wasn’t recorded that I thought would have made a better album. I stopped… four things that I quite liked. And probably a few more written that didn’t even get in the door.”

“Long After Dark” was the fifth album by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. The album peaked at number nine in the US, but Petty never charted in Australia to the level he had in America. The album charted at number 77 in Australia.

The US hit “You Got Lucky” peaked at number 20 in the US Top 40, but only reached number 66 in Australia.
