ForbesToday’s NYT “Connections” Tips and Answers for Friday, November 15 (#523)

Welcome to the weekend, folks! I hope you have some fun plans lined up. It’s my partner’s birthday, so we’re going to spend some quality time together. I bought her some fun gifts so I hope she likes them.

Today NYT CONNECTIONS Hints and answers for Saturday, November 16, coming right up.

How to play Connections

CONNECTIONS is a free, popular New York Times daily pun. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play on NYT website or the Games app.

You are presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by discovering the connections between them. Groups could be things like clickable items, names for research study participants, or words preceded by a body part.

There’s only one solution to each puzzle, and you’ll have to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can mix the words to perhaps help you see the connections between them.

Each group has a color code. The yellow group is usually the easiest to understand, the blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the most difficult. The purple group often involves puns.

Select four words that you think go together and hit submit. If you make a guess and get it wrong, you’ll lose a life. If you’re close to getting a group right, you might see a message telling you that you have one more word to get right, but you’ll still have to figure out which one to change.

If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with some hints, and if you’re really struggling, today’s one CONNECTIONS answers. As with Wordle and other similar games, it’s easy to share results with your friends on social networks and group chats.

If you have one NYT All Access subscription or Games, you can access CONNECTIONS archive. This includes every previous game of CONNECTIONSso you can go back and play any you missed.

Other than the top 60 games, you should be able to find my suggestions for each grid via Google if you need them! Only click here and add the date of the game for which you need hints or the answers to the search query.

What are the current connections responses?

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s CONNECTIONS answers.

This is your last warning!

Today CONNECTIONS the answers are…

  • Yellow group – things that prevent leaks (CAP, COVER, PLUG, SEAL)
  • Green group — types of hats (BERET, DERBY, PILLBOX, SNAPBACK)
  • Blue Group — College Football Team Members (GATOR, SOONER, VOLUNTEER, WOLVERINE)
  • Purple group — go ____ (BANANAS, COMMANDO, FIGURE, ROGUE)

My last streak ended after four wins. Here’s how I did today:

I thought the hat related words were a red herring as CAP made sense with yellows. I’m not entirely sure what I was thinking with an assumption about BERET, COMMANDO, VOLUNTEER and ROGUE, but it made sense in my mind at the time.

I have to admit, I’m not super au fait with American sports, especially at the college level, but I thought (Oklahoma) EARLIER, (Kentucky) DERBY and (Florida) GATOR might have been in a group . I just didn’t know what could go with them. I tried BANANAS (as in the wonderful Savannah Bananas), but no dice. I wasn’t even far from a group there.

I had no idea where to go from there, so I made some random guesses and came up short on both occasions. As it turns out, I wasn’t a million miles away from realizing it, so I don’t feel too bad.

When I first saw the answers, I wondered what the heck a DERBY hat was, because I’d never heard it referred to that way. It’s a bowler hat where I come from. I was also on the right track with the blues. But I doubt I would have known what a Tennessee VOLUNTEER or a Michigan WOLVERINE was if one had been right in front of me.

As for the purple, yes, I probably should have realized. It was a bit too weak a connection for me.

That’s all there is for today CONNECTIONS clues and answers. Be sure to check it out my blog for hints and the walkthrough for Sunday’s game if you need them.

PS A while back I spent a few weeks recommending a lot of Scottish artists. I can’t believe I left this guy out.

Paolo Nutini has such a rich voice. I liked his first album, but I have to admit I haven’t listened to much of his work since then. This is his early single, damn it:
