Burglary Suspect Injured After Jumping From US-101 Overpass: Police

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The San Francisco Police Department arrested a burglary suspect after he jumped from a freeway overpass last week, police said. The man allegedly broke into a liquor store earlier that morning.

Police first responded to a liquor store in the 700 block of 22nd Street at 2:12 a.m. on Nov. 7 for a reported theft in progress. Several suspects forced their way into the store and took items and money.

The suspects left the scene in several vehicles. Police attempted to stop a car going north on US-101, but it sped off and officers did not pursue it.

Further along the freeway toward the 7th Street exit, the car crashed, SFPD said. Police approached the vehicle and saw the suspect jump off the overpass, landing on 15th and Vermont streets 40 feet below.

The man had life-threatening injuries. He was taken into custody and hospitalized. The police also recovered a weapon.

A police investigation concluded that the suspect was involved in two other burglaries that occurred the same night in the Ingleside and Mission neighborhoods.

Police have not identified the suspect as the investigation is ongoing. SFPD is working to arrest the other suspects who participated in the burglary.
