Woman sentenced to 10 months in ACI for helping man escape from fatal accident

WARWICK, RI (WPRI) — A Charlestown woman was sentenced Friday in connection with the death of a teenager in East Greenwich two years ago.

Alicia Peckham, 27, had found guilty of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death as an aider and abettor, harboring a felon, misdemeanor trespass and obstruction of justice.

Peckham was sentenced to three years, with 10 months to be served at ACI and two years to be served on home detention. She was also ordered to pay a $5,000 fine and perform 200 hours of community service

“My condolences to the family, certainly, 100 percent,” Peckham told 12 News outside court.

Investigators believe her then-boyfriend, Aramis Segura, was speeding when he crashed into the back of 17-year-old Olivia Passaretti’s car on I-95 South while driving home early on New Year’s Day.

Passaretti’s car was forced off the highway and down an embankment, where it struck a tree and overturned. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Segura abandoned his car and ran into the woods, where he eventually connected with Peckham, who drove him back to their home in Charlestown.

During the trial, the prosecutors the presented texts Peckham reportedly sent Segura’s sister the night of the accident as well an audio recording of her interview with detectives where she admitted to lying twice during the investigation.

Peckham’s attorney was able to get one of the charges dismissed and told 12 News outside court that he believes the sentence is fair.

Meanwhile, Passaretti’s family is happy to close this chapter.

“Was that enough time? Not. But at the end of the day, no time would be enough because nothing brings her back,” said her sister Victoria Passaretti. “We just hope that at the end of the day (Peckham) learns from her actions and she takes something from it.”

Peckham’s sentence officially begins on Friday, December 13.

Segura is due to be sentenced in January after pleading no contest last month.
