An Eight Mile man charged with impersonating a peace officer

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A 57-year-old Eight Mile man is being held at the Mobile County Metro Jail today on charges of disorderly conduct and impersonating a peace officer.

The Mobile Police Department said Kenneth Salter was arrested Thursday after posing as a Mobile County Sheriff’s Office deputy. Records show he was booked into jail late Thursday night.

Police said it was around 7:36 p.m. when officers went to Chef King at 5628 Old Shell Road in response to a disorderly conduct call. They confronted Salter, who they said identified himself as a Mobile County sheriff’s deputy.

Officers reported that they then learned that Salter entered the facility and had a brief verbal altercation with a male victim inside. Police said he was found to have attempted to restrain the victim a short time later but was unable to do so.

Investigators also said Salter struck the victim’s vehicle, causing minor damage.

MPD said Salter is not a law enforcement officer with MCSO.
