FOX CROSSING, Wis. (WBAY) – Police officers in Fox Crossing responded to several reports of thefts from vehicles Thursday and all of the cases had one thing in common:

The doors were unlocked.

Fox Crossing police say complaints came in throughout the day on both the east and west sides of the village.

Police say these crimes of opportunity are easily preventable. They recommend getting into a routine every night before bed:

• Remove valuables from your vehicles
• Make sure the car doors are locked
• Make sure the garage doors are closed and locked
• Close and lock the exterior doors of your home
• Turn on the exterior lights
• Make sure your security and surveillance equipment is turned on
