Cash app users have less than a week to file a refund request for Security and data breach of 2021.

Users have until November 18, 2024 to file a claim for the $15 million in damages that the mobile payment service was ordered to pay in a recent settlement.

Plaintiffs in a class-action lawsuit against Cash App Investing and Block Inc., filed after a December 2021 data breach, said the companies failed to “exercise reasonable care in securing and protecting consumer information.”

The breach affected 8.2 million current and former Cash App Investing customers, according to the lawsuit.

Cash app users could receive up to $2,500.

When did the Cash app security breach occur?

The lawsuit said the December 2021 data breach resulted in the “unauthorized release of personally identifiable information of 8.2 million current and former Cash App Investing customers.”

Additionally, a former employee gained access to Cash app users’ personal information during their employment and downloaded the data without the users’ knowledge, the lawsuit states.

How do I know if I’ve been scammed in the Cash app?

Cash app users should check if they have had any unauthorized or fraudulent withdrawals or transfers of funds from their Cash app account between August 23, 2018 and August 20, 2024, Cashmobile payment service said.

How much will I get from the Cash app settlement?

Eligible users can submit a claim of up to $2,500, the Cash App Website said.

Am I qualified to file a claim?

Cash app users must have had an account on August 23, 2018 and before August 20, 2024 in order to file a claim. Qualifying users must not have already been reimbursed by Block Inc., Cash App Investing or a third party, the mobile payment service said.

What types of complaints can Cash users submit?

According to the Cash app, a user can submit a claim for the following:

  • Out of pocket losses: Users can submit a complaint showing that their Cash App account was involved in the data breach. If a user is eligible for a refund, after submitting the required documentation to the company, they could receive up to $2,500.
  • Lost time: Cash app users who file a complaint may be eligible for reimbursement for lost time. Users can file a claim for up to three hours at a rate of $25 per hour for time spent with unauthorized users and data breaches.
  • Trading losses: If a user suffered a monetary loss and was not reimbursed, they will be able to file a transaction loss claim.

What if I have multiple Cash App accounts?

Users only need to submit one claim form. However, if you have multiple Cash App accounts you want to file a claim for, the mobile payment service recommends that users list each of their Cash App user tags and their claim information on a single claim form, it said Cash App.

How to request cash application settlement

To file a claim, Cash app users can submit a completed claim form by November 18, 2024 for review. You can submit the application form at cashappsecuritysettlement.com/submit-claim.
