Storm approaching to bring weather changes to Arizona today and into this weekend

PHOENIX (AZ Family) — Look for sunny but cooler weather in the Valley today with an afternoon high of 73 degrees. Winds should be fairly light with some occasional breezes.

The wind will blow in other areas of the state today. A Wind Advisory is in effect from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM for North Central, Northeast and West Central Arizona. Sustained southwest winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour are expected, with gusts nearing 50 miles per hour.

Strong winds are driven by a storm system moving through the Great Basin. This storm will split into two parts of energy, bringing rain and snow showers to northwestern parts of the state Saturday and eastern and southeastern parts of the state Sunday into early Monday. Rainfall amounts should be light.

The Valley is not expected to see any rain, but temperatures are forecast to drop. Look for morning temperatures in the low 30s to mid-40s this weekend, with afternoon highs near 66 on Saturday and 70 on Sunday.

Temperatures are expected to remain cool for the start of next week, but a warming trend will begin on Wednesday and continue into the second half of the week.
