The lawyer who claimed he could barely walk was struck after a six-mile waterfall hike

Lawyer who claimed he could barely walk 100 meters in £250,000 fake car accident insurance application she was hit after photos showed her completing a grueling six-mile waterfall hike.

Claire Thomas said she suffered soft tissue injuries, migraines and psychological problems for about three years after a van crashed into the back of her stationary car in 2016.

But her insurance claim was rejected after it was discovered she had also attended a pop concert, traveled to Rome and Venice, attended The Six Nations Rugby Games and has volunteered at a music festival in the years since.

LV=, the insurance company whose insured admitted liability for the accident, became suspicious of her symptoms and asked a law firm to investigate.

The lawyer was found to have been “fundamentally dishonest” in her account after pictures on social media showed her taking part in various “exhausting” activities, including a trip to Brecon Beacons in South Wales.

“No credible explanation”

The lawyer has now been struck off for her “dishonest” behaviour, after a disciplinary tribunal found she had “given inaccurate accounts of her symptoms” which she “knew were false”.

Thomas, 41, insisted her mobility was severely restricted in her claim, adding that even on a good day she can only walk a maximum of 100 meters before stopping.

The lawyer said her ability to stand was limited to between 10 and 15 minutes at a time and she always needed a handrail on steps.
