Israel strikes several targets in Iran in retaliatory strikes

Israel confirmed it hit numerous military sites during its retaliatory strikes on Iran on Saturday, in an operation later dubbed the “Days of Repentance”.

The attack was declared over at 5:45 a.m., just as the sun began to rise over Tehran, according to public broadcaster KAN11.

The attack came in three major waves, US and Israeli officials said. The second and third waves targeted Iran’s drone and missile production sites, hitting more than 20 targets, according to Axios and New York Times.

Iran told AFP it had received no reports of injuries from the attacks.

The IDF later announced early Saturday morning that it had ended its reactive operation against Iran.

The IDF said the strikes were carried out in response to continued attacks on the state of Israel and its citizens.

The IDF confirmed that the operation had ended and that all mission objectives had been achieved, with all aircraft returning home safely.

The IAF struck the missile production sites that produced the missiles Iran fired at Israel over the past year.

Simultaneously, the IDF struck surface-to-air missile networks designed to restrict Israel’s freedom of air operation in Iran.

“The State of Israel reserves the right to defend its citizens if the Iranian regime continues its attacks against the State of Israel and its civilians,” the IDF said.

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant was leading the attacks from a secure compound at the IDF headquarters in Tel Aviv, according to Israeli media.

“The FID is currently attacking precise targets in Iran,” IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari said in a statement. “This is a response to the Iranian regime’s persistent attacks on the State of Israel.

A second wave of airstrikes was reported following explosions heard in Shiraz later in the early hours of Saturday morning.

“TDI are fully prepared in attack and defense. We are following developments in Iran and its representatives in the region.”

No change has been announced in the orders of the Home Front Command. Israel’s Security Cabinet also met to approve the strikes.

More than 100 aircraft were involved in the 2,000km strike, including the latest generation F-35s, according to Walla.

The United States was notified by Israel ahead of the strikes on targets in Iran but was not involved in the operation, a US official told Reuters.

“It is our understanding that Israel is conducting targeted strikes against military targets in Iran as a self-defense exercise and in response to Iran’s October 1 ballistic missile attack against Israel,” said Sean Savett, a spokesman for the White House National Security Council. , in a statement. “We would refer you to the Israeli government for more information on their operation.”

Sites from Iran

Israel reportedly attacked the headquarters of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

“We are targeting things that have threatened us in the past or may do in the future,” an Israeli official was quoted as saying by NBC News. The official also said that Israel is not striking Iran’s nuclear facilities or oil fields and is focusing on military targets.

There were reports of widespread internet outages in Iran as the attacks continued.

Several of the strikes in Tehran targeted military bases in southern and southwestern Tehran, according to Iranian media.

Karaj, one of the cities where explosions were heard, contains one of Iran’s nuclear power plants.

The Tasnim news agency said “nothing was reported about hearing the sound of rockets or planes in the sky of Tehran.”

Iranian officials and media denied that Israeli airstrikes had taken place, saying the explosions were the result of Iranian air defenses; an Israeli official strongly denied this to Ynet, saying: “This is a lie. Total failure – zero intercepts”.

There were also reports of explosions at Imam Khomeini International Airport in the Iranian capital. However, Iranian officials have denied that anything is amiss.

Parallel operations

The IDF began an artillery strike on the Al-Bureij refugee camp in the Gaza Strip as part of a wider series of strikes in the region, including air and ground strikes on terrorist strongholds, according to Israeli media.

Israel has also attacked targets in Syria, with the Syrian army confirming that the IDF struck sites in central and southern Syria.

Explosions were also reported in Iraq as part of a series of responses to Iran and its proxy groups across the region.

There were no planes that flew over Syria or northern Iraq during the suspected attack. Iran closed its airspace following the attack, according to reports Maariv.

On Friday, a fire was reported at an Iranian Ministry of Defense facility in Tehran, although the Tehran Fire Department denied any connection.

This is a developing story.
