KLUANG – Police have arrested a truck driver involved in a three-vehicle accident that killed a 33-year-old Malaysian man and injured a married couple in Kluang, Johor.

Kluang OCPD Deputy Superintendent Nik Mohd Azmi Husin said the accident at KM69.5 of the North-South Expressway is believed to have occurred when the container truck driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a road divider highway.

The truck was carrying a container full of fertilizers and was heading towards Johor Bahru from Kluang when the 40-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle.

The truck hit the metal divider in the center of the road and overturned along with the container it was carrying, he said in a Nov. 15 press statement.

He said the rear of the truck was then hit by a car traveling along the lane, while a motorcycle crashed into the overturned container.

The driver and motorcyclist were unable to stop the vehicle in time to avoid colliding with the trailer and its container.

The motorcyclist suffered serious head and body injuries and died on the spot.

Meanwhile, a 25-year-old man who was driving the car sustained leg and body injuries while his 26-year-old wife sustained head injuries.

Their one-year-old child was also in the car but was unharmed, he said.

Superintendent Nik Mohd Azmi said the lorry driver, who was not injured, was arrested to assist in the investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Earlier, it was reported that one man died while two others were injured in a three-vehicle accident involving a trailer.

Photos and videos of the accident, which happened around 7.30am on November 15, have been doing the rounds on social media.

This accident happened just two days after a similar incident in Bukit Mertajam, Penang, which resulted in the death of a woman and seriously injured a 25-year-old man.

In the Nov 13 incident, the 21-year-old died when the car she was driving was crushed by a container at the Jalan Bukit Tengah traffic light junction. STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
