Rookie RB Lloyd practices for second straight day, closer to returning to game action

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – Packers rookie running back MarShawn Lloyd is closer to returning after practicing in a limited capacity for the second straight day.

Lloyd was placed on injured reserve after suffering an ankle injury in the week two game against Indianapolis. This week, the Packers opened their 21-day window to return to practice.

“Throughout training camp, MarShawn has done some really good things and I think just his explosiveness. I think he is a very fast runner. Bringing him back will help us create some more explosive plays. Obviously he’s a guy that we’re going to want to rock, but at the same time though, Josh plays so well too. Just getting him back in the lineup, getting him some touches, is going to be huge this week,” quarterback Jordan Love said.

The defense is often Chicago’s best unit. This season, they are ranked seventh in scoring and seventh against the pass, but could be vulnerable to Green Bay’s ground game.

This season, the Bears are giving up 131 rushing yards per contest and are without nose tackle Andrew Billings.

Big man under center defensive tackle Matt Eberflus was placed on injured reserve with a torn pectoral muscle two weeks ago.

Meanwhile, the Packers are about to charge into Chicago with a full compliment of running backs. That creates a unique situation with an open roster spot.

“The hardest thing is that we have three other spaces where we are really confident. I don’t know if the four of us have ever dressed for a game. So I think it’s a good problem to have, but it’s definitely a tough decision,” Matt LaFleur said.

Josh Jacobs will still get plenty of touches, but the challenge is with the likes of Emanuel Wilson and Chris Brooks.

Wilson might have the best stat line with 254 yards rushing and scoring his first touchdown of the season against Detroit.

Brooks, on the other hand, has seen his role increase recently after being on the court for about a quarter of the offensive snaps.
