A suspicious late-night visitor sparks a police investigation in Emigration Canyon

Security footage captured a stranger wandering onto a homeowner’s property late Wednesday night, appearing to try to get in through the front door.

Justin, the owner who asked that only his first name be used, was not at the property when his phone started ringing with security camera notifications just after midnight.

“I want to believe the best in people,” Justin said. “I really hope he didn’t try to break into the property.”

In the footage, the man is seen opening the storm door and apparently trying to open the front door. Justin, watching from a distance, confronted the man through the camera.

“Excuse me, hey, what are you doing?” he asked.

The video shows the stranger then walking through the side gate and leaving the premises. Justin reported that nothing was taken.

“I hope it wasn’t anything malicious, but it’s very strange to see someone walking around up there so late at night,” Justin said.

The man’s face is blurred in the footage, as police have not yet identified or arrested him. However, authorities are trying to locate him.

“We don’t want to assume anything,” said Sgt. Aymee Race of the Unified Police Department. “That’s why it’s important to talk to this person and find out why they were there and what happened.”

Race pointed out that the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of home security, especially this time of year when people can be more opportunistic.

The Unified Police is investigating the case as a crime. Officers have increased patrols in the area and are actively searching for the man in hopes of interviewing him.
