Typical fall weather is returning to our area

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) –

We are behind a cold front and cooler air is settling in. So make sure you grab a jacket or sweater before you head out on the following mornings. You’ll start the day with 40 if you leave early Friday through Sunday. These numbers are seasonal and what you would expect this time of year for wake temperatures. It may also be cold enough for some of you to turn on the heat.

Afternoon highs will also be more “fall-like” for Friday, with temperatures around 70 degrees. Highs will be slightly above average Saturday in the 70s, then highs will climb well above average through Sunday in the upper-mid 70s…but relatively pleasant for most.

FIRST ALERT – POTENTIAL FIRST FROST OF THE SEASON

Rain isn’t an issue this weekend, but rain chances will return early next week ahead of a strong cold front that moves through Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Behind this system, expect the coldest air of the season so far and the potential for the FIRST HIT of the season. Early estimates show that lows could drop into the mid-30s starting next Friday morning…through next weekend. So start preparing for cooler nights/mornings by the end of next week. Stay tuned to our First Alert weather teams for updates as we approach the “autumn chill.”
