According to NBC Newsformer Detroit Lions linebacker Leander Antwione Williams was charged in the January 6 riot.

Williams was arrested in Georgia on Thursday (November 14) for assaulting police officers during the attack on the US Capitol.

The 31-year-old was selected by the Lions in the fifth round (169th overall) in the 2016 draft.

Williams, who played in 14 games during his rookie campaign with the Lions, tallied 12 tackles.

After one season in Detroit, he was waived in 2017 and later signed with the NFC North Division, practice squad foe Minnesota Vikings, but was waived again in 2018.

He signed with the Seattle Seahawks practice squad in 2018, but was released again in just two days.

Williams was later signed by the Carolina Panthers in 2018, but was waived in the 2019 final roster cut.

The 31-year-old was arrested in Savannah, Georgia, and charged with felony assault, resisting or obstructing certain officers and obstructing law enforcement.

Williams was also charged with three misdemeanor counts of entering and remaining on restricted Capitol buildings and grounds, disorderly conduct and acts of physical violence.

He is accused of joining others in the pro-Donald Trump mob when he attacked police to enter the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, after months of lying about the election that Trump lost.
