Teen dead, friend injured in hit-and-run crash in Van Nuys

The search continues for the driver of one of the two vehicles involved in the fatal crash Van Nuys.

Two youths were leaving youth services at a local gym when their vehicle was hit.

The accident happened on November 8, around 9:50 p.m., on Sherman Way near Van Nuys Blvd.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, a Mercedes GT63 and a Rolls-Royce Cullinan were speeding on Sherman Way when the Mercedes collided with an eastbound Honda Civic attempting a left turn into the Sherman Circle parking lot.

The driver of the Rolls-Royce veered left and collided with an eastbound Chevy Traverse. The Rolls-Royce then crashed into the kerb. Police say the driver got out and ran in an unknown direction.

The driver of the Mercedes complained of pain and was transported to a local hospital. He was then arrested for reckless driving.

The Mercedes and Rolls-Royce may have been racing before the crash.

Police are currently looking for the driver of the Rolls-Royce.

The two innocent men in the Honda were taken to hospital.

Rangel Vega, 22, died from his injuries. His friend, Alejandro Luquin, 22, is in hospital recovering from his third operation. Alejandro’s family doesn’t tell him that his friend has died yet because the doctors are worried about how he will react and want to focus on his recovery.

The two have been best friends since high school and were both very active at La Iglesia del Camino in Van Nuys. They had just left the church and driven to get food when the collision happened.

A GoFundMe the account was created to help both families with medical and funeral costs.

Family and friends will also be selling food at Balboa Park on Saturday, November 16th from 9am to 3pm to help raise funds.
