Santa Rosa police to conduct DUI, license checkpoint this weekend

The checkpoint will be between 18:00 Friday and 2:00 Saturday.

Santa Rosa police will be checking drivers this weekend during a DUI and license checkpoint in the city.

Police will operate the checkpoint between 6 p.m. Friday and 2 a.m. Saturday at an undisclosed location identified as having previous impaired driving crashes, Sgt. Josh Medeiros said in a press release.

The checkpoint is meant to get drivers suspected of DUI off the road — whether it’s from alcohol, marijuana, or drugs. Officers can also check your driver’s license for possible violations.

Those charged with a first-time DUI could face a suspended license and an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, Medeiros said.

The checkpoint received funding from a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
