John Swinney to face FMQs after plan for National Care Service scrapped

John Swinney will face questions after the Scottish Government scrapped its National Care Service plan.

The Prime Minister will answer questions in parliament after changes to the proposals were confirmed on Thursday morning.

The proposal would have centralized adult social care and social assistance in Scotland, ultimately making ministers responsible for their delivery.

However, the plans have attracted criticism after it emerged that more than £28m has been spent on designing the 2021 service.

Neil Gray, who is due to address MSPs, is also expected to be asked questions about his use of a ministerial car to attend football matches.

Gray will make a statement in the Scottish Parliament, discussing his ministerial journey.

The Conservatives attacked the SNP minister after it was reported that he had been chauffeured to Hampden to watch three matches involving Aberdeen, the team he supports.

But his cabinet colleague Gillian Martin defended him, saying he was “doing his job” and attending events to promote government initiatives.
