He emphasized the provision of legal assistance services for people at the grassroots level

RAJSHAHI, November 14, 2024 (BSS) – Collaborative efforts of all concerned governmental and non-governmental organizations can be the effective means of providing legal aid services to the grass root population through the functioning of Union Parishad Legal Aid Committee (UPLAC).

At the same time, all the people involved should be more sincere in providing legal aid to the poor, distressed and other litigants because all people are equal in the eyes of the law.

So all people should have access to legal aid coverage whenever and wherever they need it.

Public representatives and development activists came up with the observation while addressing an orientation meeting for the Union Legal Aid Committee at Harian Union Parishad (UP) Hall under Paba upazila of the district on Wednesday.


Under the National Legal Aid Organization Regulations 2011, the development NGO Light House and Harian UP jointly organized the meeting supported by USAID and Democracy International.

With Harian UP panel president Saber Ali as chairman, the meeting was attended by all committee members.

Light House Project Coordinator Siddiqul Alam Mamun, Project Officer Nazmun Nahar Sumi and Upazila Coordinator Haimanti Paul conducted the orientation program as resource persons disseminating their expertise on the issue.

The discussants emphasized the need to carry out legal aid activities at the grassroots level, along with expediting services to poor and distressed victims to protect their basic human rights.

During the orientation, participants were familiarized with legal aid processes, roles and responsibilities to equip them to effectively secure and deliver legal aid to the community.

The session covered the essential guidelines from the 2011 regulations, aimed at strengthening committee understanding and promoting accessible justice at the union level.
