Three Steelers players miss practice with injuries Wednesday

PITTSBURGH— Three Pittsburgh Steelers starters were held out of practice due to injury Wednesday as the team began preparations for its Week 11 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, but only Alex Highsmith is expected to miss the game.

Highsmith, Najee Harris and Donte Jackson all sat out Wednesday’s practice. Highsmith suffered a sprained left ankle late in Sunday’s loss to the Washington Commanders and is expected to miss at least the next two weeks. Highsmith was in good spirits in the locker room, walking around in a walking boot on a cart. He said the video made the injury look worse than it actually turned out and he feels he dodged a bullet.

Harris also suffered an ankle injury against the Chiefs, but was able to return to the game. He said Sunday night that he was expected to have an MRI on Monday and would learn more about the injury then. Head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday he expected Harris to be limited in practice this week, but he doesn’t expect his availability for the Ravens game to be in question.

Jackson has missed the end of several games this season, but he hasn’t missed a start. The veteran cornerback has been playing through a sprained shoulder and now added a hamstring injury that caused him to miss Wednesday’s practice, but he is expected to play as well, Tomlin said Tuesday.

Veteran tight end MyCole Pruitt did not practice Wednesday either. He has been held out of practice here and there since returning from a knee injury earlier this season. Wide receiver Van Jefferson was another addition to the injury report. The extent of his injuries on patrol is unclear.

Wide receiver Calvin Austin III returned to practice Wednesday and wasn’t even placed on the team’s injury report after briefly leaving Sunday’s game to be checked for a concussion.
