Accused in Mark Lifman murder to wait until December to apply for bail

CAPE TOWN – The two men accused of murdering controversial Cape Town businessman Mark Lifman will have to wait a month to find out if they will be granted bail.

Fifty-three-year-old Johannes Jacobs and 37-year-old Gert Bezuidenhout appeared at George Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

They were arrested in Uniondale hours after Lifman’s slaying in George on Nov. 3.

Lifman, an alleged underworld figure, was shot and killed as he walked to his car in the Garden Route Mall parking lot.

Jacobs and Bezuidenhout are charged with first degree murder for their alleged involvement in Lifman’s murder.

They will return to court on December 12 and 13 to apply for bail.

The motive for Lifman’s killing is unknown at this stage.
