The Guardian will stop posting on X, calling it a ‘toxic media platform’

Major British newspaper The Guardian says it will no longer post any official editorial accounts on the social media platform X.

The daily, known for its liberal tone, made the announcement on its website on Wednesday.

It cited the “often disturbing content promoted or found on the platform, including far-right conspiracy theories and racism.”

He added: “The US presidential election campaign has only served to underline what I have long believed: that X is a toxic media platform and that its owner, Elon Musk, has been able to use his influence to shape political discourse”.

The paper said its reporters would be able to continue using the website for news-gathering purposes.

Musk posted on X, calling The Guardian “a laboriously vile propaganda machine.”

The neutrality of the social media platform has been repeatedly called into question.

Brazil’s Supreme Court has temporarily ordered X’s service to be shut down due to its failure to regulate accounts that spread false information.

In Britain, regional police and educational institutions announced in July that they would review or stop using the platform after false information posted on X fueled anti-immigrant sentiment, sparking widespread riots.
