WAUKEGAN, Ill. (WLS) — A teenager was killed while cycling in the northern suburbs over the weekend, according to police.

The crash happened around 12:45 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of Belvidere Road and Fulton Avenue, Waukegan police said.

The 17-year-old was riding his bicycle when he was hit by a car on the road.

Waukegan police said the driver did not remain at the scene.

When the police arrived, they found the teenager distraught. He died on the spot.

He was later identified as Jorge Carmona of Waukegan by the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

The accident remains under investigation by the Waukegan Police Department’s Major Injury Unit.
