A dead officer-involved shooting in Fargo

A 65-year-old Fargo man has died after an officer-involved shooting this morning.

Fargo Police Chief Dave Zibolksi says officers responded to the man’s residence in south Fargo this morning just after 10am. He had made numerous calls to work throughout the morning regarding the need for medical attention for suicidal ideation.

Zibolski says Fargo Fire and EMS were called to the scene and were unsuccessful in engaging the man. He came out of the house with a gun at 10:52 a.m. and Zibolski says two officers fired at him. Rescue measures were carried out but were unsuccessful. The officers were placed on paid administrative duty.

Zibolksi says the names of the officers — a sergeant with eight years of service and an officer with ten months of service — will be released Friday. The identity of the deceased will be revealed tomorrow.

Zibolski says Fargo Police have had several previous contacts with the deceased.

“I had another six contacts in 2024 and then I don’t have all the details before that, but several contacts before 2024 were about the same issues.”

Zibolski called the incident “deeply tragic.”

The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation is handling the investigation.
