A woman has died following a house fire in… St Helens. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service were called to a serious house fire in Sutton at around 4.41pm on Sunday 10 November.

On arrival firefighters found a terraced house with a fire in the front ground floor room. Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus quickly entered the property with a hose reel jet, saving the home’s resident who was then taken to hospital by the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS).

Mersey Fire confirmed the woman died from her injuries in the fire. An investigation found the suspected cause of the fire to be accidental ignition due to unsafe disposal of smokers’ materials.

Firefighters and MFRS prevention staff will be visiting the local area to provide essential fire safety advice and complete home fire safety checks as part of a reassurance campaign over the coming days.
