YouTuber Marques Brownlee apologizes after being filmed ‘driving over 90mph in 35mph zone’ | News from the USA

A YouTuber has apologized after apparently sharing footage of himself driving a car at over 90km/h in a 35km/h zone – saying his actions were “absolutely inexcusable and dangerous “.

Marques Brownlee said in a post on X that a clip shows him going “way too fast” while “testing” a car.

The 30-year-old said he has since removed that part of the clip from a video he shared on YouTube.

However, images shared by social media users claim to show the American YouTuber speeding in a Lamborghini.

A screen showing the car’s speed appears to show it accelerating from about 30 mph to at least 95 mph in about four seconds.

Reports suggest the video was filmed in a 35mph zone and the original clip shared by Brownlee showed him speeding past a road sign warning drivers to slow down for children.

The exact location is unknown. Brownlee previously claimed on his X feed that he was from New York, but a number of reports say he lives in New Jersey. It is also not known if he was reported to the police.

In an apology shared on his X account on Tuesday night, Brownlee said: “Last video I did something pretty stupid. You may or may not have seen it already, so I’ll cover it here.

“There was an action cam clip where I test drove a car and went really fast (sic).

“Absolutely unforgivable and dangerous. I have since cut it out of the video with YouTube’s editing tool. I also understand that this seems like we’re hiding it, but I think it’s the right thing to do.

“There is no reason to leave that clip (there was no reason to include it in the first place) and I would never want to make it look ok by leaving it in the video… I know everything on the internet lives for always, but I think it’s the best decision now.

“All I can do (is) apologize and promise never to do anything close to that stupid thing again. It’s a terrible example to set and I’m sorry for it.”

It comes Monday after Brownlee angered those who downloaded his new wallpaper app called Panels.

Those who downloaded it expressed concerns about pricing and “excessive data disclosures.”

He later released a video in which he admitted it was a “blunder” but said he had not sought people’s data.
