Clouds will shower late today, adding to a messy morning

WHAT TO EXPECT

It’s a little cooler this morning at 42 degrees in Knoxville. Much of our higher elevations are in the mid to upper 30s this morning. It’s mostly clear and calm with patchy fog possible for the morning commute.

Wednesday comes with gradually increasing clouds, but it’s still a beautiful day. The second cold front brings rain starting this evening. That leaves us around 68 degrees in Knoxville with a light, variable breeze. Winds are already picking up in our higher elevations today, like the Plateau and Smoky Mountains.

This evening starts with light on and off showers, but then it’s a steady stream of rain through the night and into the morning hours. We will only cool down to about 52 degrees.

Looking ahead

It’s a wet start for Thursday, so this adds up to a weather-based WVLT First Alert weather day. This can make for a messy morning commute, with hydroplaning and visibility issues the main risks.

Scattered showers by midday and light showers in the afternoon on Thursday with a cooler day and cloudy outlook. We will only be around 58 degrees in the afternoon.

That’s about three-quarters to an inch of the total rainfall, with isolated higher amounts.

Clouds persist Friday, keeping us in the 40s in the morning and then only around 60 degrees in the afternoon.

In your Planner of 8 day First Alert, the weekend clears with cool mornings and just above average afternoon temperatures. We’re tracking another cold front mid to late next week that could bring some snow to the mountains.
