The North Alabama group returns from a trip to help victims of Hurricane Helene

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Waffle) – A group of men from north Alabama recently returned from giving back to people in North Carolina affected by Hurricane Helene.

Rand Hutchison and his team of 11 went to Fairview, North Carolina. He said different people had different skill sets and focused on different tasks.

“Our main focus has been nutrition,” he said, adding that some of the prepared menu items include prime rib steaks and breakfast burritos.

Hutchison said more than 600 meals were served in one day.

Another goal was to build shelving units to help a donation center that needed repairs.

Hutchison said the experience was rewarding.

“As good as any of us imagined,” he said. “The idea came out of impatience with me and a friend talking. We wanted to do more and do something ourselves.”

Hutchison said that while in North Carolina, he and his group became known as the North Alabama Boys and that he is considering starting a 501c3.

“Hopefully we can continue to do that,” Hutchison said.
