Meghan Markle’s sister Samantha ‘sent death threats’ after Netflix documentary | Royal | News

Meghan Markle’s sister Samantha Markle was forced to move home and “faced realistic death threats” after the Duchess of Sussex’s release. Netflix documentary according to the new court files that have reached the spotlight.

The Duchess of Sussex was sued by her half-sister over comments she made to Oprah Winfrey in 2021 and on her Netflix series Harry & Meghan in 2022.

But, she lost the case in March when a US court dismissed the defamation case. However, she is currently fighting to appeal the decision to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Meghan’s Netflix The show featured a segment that said Samantha was “part of the group producing… disinformation” and ended with Meghan saying: “You make people want to kill me.”

A file from Samantha’s lawyer, seen by the outlet Newsweekread: “There can be no doubt that Meghan Markle verbally attacked her sister Samantha Markle in her documentary.”

The filing adds that the duchess’ half-sister “has never been part of a disinformation group, has never controlled Meghan, has never been part of a hate group, has never used the N-word on tweets, has never monetized any hate tweets against Meghan. or did something to make someone want to kill Meghan or made Meghan nervous about such activity.”

The media also claimed that the case now centers on a segment of the documentary featuring Christopher Bouzy, the founder of social media analytics firm Bot Sentinel, and Meghan’s own words.

Mr Bouzy said in the series: “So this is not your everyday trolling. It’s crazy. And it was made by people who just weren’t your typical unquote trolls. These are housewives. These are middle-aged Caucasian women. Samantha Markle was part of the group that put out a lot of this misinformation.”

The segment ended with Meghan saying, “You make people want to kill me. It’s not just a tabloid. It’s not just a story. You scare me.”

Samantha’s lawyer argued that the “you” in that sentence was not a generic reference to social media trolls in general, but was instead directed at Samantha.

The filing also says: “Meghan is now downplaying the effect that her own words and those of Christopher Bouzy and what the publication had on Samantha, who was forced to move houses, withdraw from public outings (such as be going to the grocery store). , or even earn a living as she can no longer work as a social worker) and has faced realistic death threats from individuals who have “pledged” allegiance to Meghan in this “fight” between the two sisters”.

It adds that Samantha is dealing with the “very real effects” of Meghan’s “harmful” campaign against her half-sister.

Meghan’s lawyers previously said in their own filing: “An implied or express statement that (Samantha) belongs to a hate group that spreads misinformation about Meghan is an opinion protected by the First Amendment.”

They added: “(Samantha’s) bad faith tactics are for naught: each of the challenged implications in the opening appellate brief is unactionable for two or more reasons. First, the District Court was correct that actual malice was absolutely absent here. There is no argument that Meghan had serious doubts about the basis of Bouzy’s on-camera statements, as required for her to be held accountable for a source’s statements.”
