A Lincoln man has charged after hitting a man with a vehicle, police said

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – A Lincoln man is facing multiple felony charges after intentionally hitting another man with his vehicle last month, according to the Lincoln Police Department.

Officers were called to the Roper Park parking lot near 9th and Belmont streets around 6:50 p.m. on Oct. 27 for a report of a possible hit-and-run accident.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with a 47-year-old man who said he was in the park when a station wagon pulled into the lot. He said he thought he recognized the driver as a suspect in a burglary he reported in February.

Police said the driver, later identified as 20-year-old Keltavious Dotson, got out of his vehicle, prompting the 47-year-old man to exit his own vehicle. The two argued before returning to their vehicles. As the 47-year-old attempted to re-enter his vehicle, Dotson allegedly drove towards him at a high rate of speed, striking him with the front or side of the car. The impact reportedly caused the man to hit the hood and windshield before falling to the ground.

He suffered a fractured elbow and knee along with cuts and bruises to his head, arms, legs and lower back.

Dotson allegedly continued to drive in circles, striking the rear of the victim’s vehicle multiple times, causing damage to the trunk and rear bumper.

According to police, Dotson fled the scene and could not be located initially. However, on November 11, he agreed to come for an interview and was subsequently arrested.

Dotson was charged with second-degree assault, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony and criminal mischief. He was booked into Lancaster County Corrections.

His bail was set at $75,000, and 10 percent is required for his release. Dotson’s next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 17.
