Man killed in shooting outside Hillcrest High School in Country Club Hills identified as police search for wanted car

COUNTRY CLUB HILLS, Illinois (WLS) — Parents are reacting to a middle school student who saw his own father killed right in front of him as Club Hills County police continue to search for suspects.

Grief counselors are available at Prairie-Hills District 144 Tuesday after a parent was killed at a school sporting event this weekend.

“I would like to know what the reason for that would be … that you would come and shoot somebody in front of their child and in front of other children. And so I think with the grief counselors, they should help them,” said Father Bishop Williams.

On Saturday afternoon, police said suspects wearing masks and hoodies waited for the victim in the parking lot of Hillcrest High School and shot Shamaree Siller, 41, in front of her middle school-aged son as they were leaving a basketball tournament.

“I mean our kids’ basketball team was there, so … Very scary situation as a parent, very scary,” said parent Wes Casper.

“It’s just unnecessary, unheard of and just disappointing,” Williams said.

It’s the second shooting at that school in just over a year.

“It really hurts my heart that this kid had to see his dad get shot in the parking lot,” parent Shay Hollins. “I’m really praying for his family.”

Police released surveillance photos of the wanted vehicle, a black Infiniti Q50 sedan.

They said there was no evidence of a dispute inside the school … or that the suspects ever entered the school that afternoon.

Shay Hollins has children at both Prairie-Hills and Hillcrest High School. She said she would like to see more police presence and protection given the growing concerns.

“It shouldn’t happen like this,” Hollins said. “Literally the police station is right across the road, we have to do better. We have to do it.”

A school spokesman said police were at the school during Saturday’s basketball tournament and said they prioritize safety at all school events, including sporting events.
