Naked man held in Braintree after armed bank robbery, reports say

A man who witnesses said was empty-handed has been detained by police after a Braintree bank was robbed at gunpoint.

The incident began Friday morning when an employee at the Eastern Bank on Granite Street reported a robbery to Braintree Police, according to a news release from the police department.

Multiple patrol units and detectives responded to the scene where they were told the suspect ran across the street into the woods near 639 Granite St.

Police said Braintree High School, which is across the street, was placed on lockdown during the search as a precaution. A perimeter was established with the assistance of K9 and air resources.

Maria Bonfiglioli, a witness, WCVB said she saw a naked man outside her house during this time.

“My dog ​​started barking,” she told the media. “Looking out the front window, there was a man completely naked in front of my front door.”

Just before 11 a.m., a Braintree officer arrested the suspect after he exited Woodline on West Street, the release said.

At the scene, WCVB reported they saw a naked man lying in the road with a yellow sheet.

The suspect was arrested and will likely be charged, police said.

“We would like to thank the neighborhood and witnesses for not only their understanding, but their diligence in assisting police in the investigation,” the Braintree Police Department said in the statement. “As always, we appreciate the help of our community members.”

The person’s identity had not been released as of 8:45 p.m. on October 26. The investigation remains ongoing.
