The cold front is limping along today

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – It won’t look like a cold front is on the horizon today. Temperatures will climb into the 80s this afternoon. Normally, we could expect a high temperature of 81 degrees. The record high is 88 today and we will get very close to that this afternoon. Despite the approaching front, we won’t see much in the way of any rain, in fact we’re unlikely to get a significant chance of rain this week. Dry air will be trapped in place.

A cold front will limp through tonight. It will wash right over us, but it will bring a slight wind shift that will have a hint of a northerly wind. This will bring slightly drier and cooler air. Tomorrow’s highs will be about 4 degrees lower than today. It will still be a few degrees above normal. Winds will pick up Wednesday in response to the front.

A chance for more seasonable weather will come with the second cold front of the week. That will appear to us by Friday. The front will be mostly dry, but it could bring much more efficient cooling. Temperatures will be at or near normal for Friday and into the weekend. Again, winds will remain strong.

The tropical Caribbean is still poised for some development in the coming days and we will monitor that area. An area of disturbed weather in the Caribbean is given a 70% chance of development within 7 days by the National Hurricane Center. Models indicate that in 8 to 10 days the growing storm named Sara could move into the nearby waters of the Gulf. There have only been 5 storms to hit the United States in November in over 150 years, and all of them hit Florida’s Gulf Coast. We will be watching that area closely.
