The residents of a community can make or break your experience in an area, whether they are unwelcoming or quick to lend a hand.

A survey ranking the most “kind-hearted and helpful” residents in the United States reveals a location in Delaware that may not be what you expect.

The kindest, most helpful residents of Delaware, USA

LuvLink, a business that focuses on products that support long-distance relationships, surveyed 3,000 travelers to find out which US locations have the best and most helpful locals. The data was compiled into a list of the top 150 places known for hospitality and genuine human connection.”

Of the 150 places featured, Delaware’s contribution is tied for 149th with Wilmington.

While not the quiet suburbia or laid-back beach towns that might typically come to mind when you think of First State hospitality, Wilmington earns its place among the other featured locations. LuvLink cites Wilmington residents as known for their “approachable and down-to-earth demeanor,” reflecting the city’s blend of big-city energy and small-town charm.

Travelers interviewed said Wilmington locals often help others navigate the city’s food and arts scenes by offering tips on the hottest restaurants and shows worth getting tickets to. Those who have visited the city add that whether you’re downtown, on the riverfront, or somewhere in between, the city’s residents are enthusiastic about their area and friendly to those looking to maximize their time in transit.

When travelers surveyed were asked about the most memorable act of kindness they experienced in Delaware, 42 percent said locals offered them guidance or assistance, and 25 percent said a local helped them during a situation unexpected or an emergency.

Overall, 17% of respondents said they were invited to a local event or gathering, and 16% were given a ride or were personally guided by a local. To illustrate how important hospitality is when booking a trip, the survey found that 52% of respondents consider it when planning, and 85% of travelers returned to a destination specifically because of the kindness shown and friendships formed during a previous visit.
