Food Network chef shot multiple times in Hyattsville robbery

HYATTSVILLE, Md. — Celebrity chef and Food Network personality Tobias Dorzon, known for his Hyattsville restaurants and television appearances, is recovering in the hospital after being shot multiple times during a violent robbery Tuesday night, police said.

The shooting happened around the 2500 block of Kirkwood Place as Dorzon and a companion were returning from dinner. According to authorities, four gunmen armed with semi-automatic weapons ambushed the two, opening fire and robbing them at the scene. Dorzon and the woman were both hit by multiple bullets. Police have yet to provide an update on the woman’s condition, but Dorzon remains hospitalized.

Hyattsville Police are actively searching for the shooters and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a white SUV connected to the crime. Surveillance footage from the scene shows one person crawling to hide behind a car as the attackers approached, followed by rapid gunfire and horrifying screams echoing into the night.

Dorzon, who owns the acclaimed Huncho House and 1123 By Chef Tobias, has become a prominent figure in the culinary world, hosting “Timeout with Tobias” on ESPN and Hulu. Earlier this year, he was the first chef in Prince George’s County to receive the honor of “Chef of the Year” from the Maryland Restaurant Association. Known for his competitive spirit, Dorzon also starred in Food Network’s “Guy’s Grocery Games” and “Tournament of Champions.”

As the community braces for the shocking attack on a local icon, police are urging anyone with information to come forward. The investigation is ongoing and detectives are working around the clock to bring the attackers to justice.
