A driver was hospitalized after he drove straight through a parking lot guardrail and landed his car upside down on the street, police said.

The incident happened Monday at the Harlem Irving Plaza Mall in Norridge, Illinois — about 15 miles northwest of downtown Chicago — when officers from the Norridge Police Department as well as the Norwood Park Fire Protection District were dispatched to the 4000 block of Octavia. to reports of an overturned vehicle with the driver trapped inside, according to a release from the Norridge Police Department.

In a photo shared by authorities on social media, emergency responders can be seen surrounding the overturned vehicle, with several responders on their hands and knees near the driver’s side of the car, as the garage railing can be seen torn from the side of it. the building, descending to the street below.

It is currently unclear what may have caused the incident, and the driver has not yet been identified by authorities.

“Norwood Park Fire extricated the driver and transported him to Lutheran General Hospital for non-life threatening injuries,” police said.

The driver is expected to survive and the crash investigation is ongoing.
