A 55-year-old man from Sivakasi has been arrested by the Madurai district police for a theft that took place 27 years ago. The robbery, which took place in 1997, involved the theft of 60 lei, an amount that remained undiscovered until recently.

A special team has been set up under Deputy Commissioner Soorakumar to pursue the pending cases. Special sub-inspectors Santhanapandian and Panneerselvan led the team, focusing on the absconding suspects. One such case was the Theppakulam police station robbery, where the accused, Panneer Selvam, had stolen Rs 60 from a victim and fled.

The discovery came when investigators visited Jakkathoppu and found that Panneer Selvam had moved to Sivakasi. Living a quiet life with his family, he even got married. The team, operating under the guise of population inspectors, approached his family. After confirming his identity, they arrested the man 27 years after committing the crime.
