Man fights Portland police dog, arrested

PORTLAND Hours. (KPTV) – A Portland man got into a fight with a canine and broke into a neighbor’s home during a standoff with officers Friday morning.

Around 5am, PPB units went out to serve a search warrant on a Torrie Bulson-Bratton on the 4500 block of N Maryland Avenue.

Bulson-Bratton was wanted for numerous violent crimes, some involving a firearm.

“I woke up to an explosion, a hit squad, ads on a meg,” says witness Jonah Eller-Isaacs.

A Northeast Portland woman woke up to a stranger hovering over her, and according to court documents, she’s not the first person this has happened to.

Officers say the “explosion” was “some explosions from launchers and other tactical tools used during this event.”

PPB surrounded the building and announced over a loudspeaker, ordering the occupants of Bulson-Bratton’s unit to exit. Police say two people turned themselves in, but the suspect refused.

After evacuating nearby establishments, officers introduced “irritant gas” into the building, but the suspect refused to surrender.

Police say they then dispatched a K9 to the suspect’s residence and he began “fighting with the police dog.”

“He tried to grab the dog and drag it into his apartment,” says Eller-Isaacs.

The officer says “the dog was recalled by its handler. He was later assessed and no injuries were found.”

After fighting the dog, police say, the man broke into a neighboring apartment. The officer released more gas.

The suspect came out and was arrested. Police say medics treated the suspect for injuries he sustained from the dog fight.

Neighbors say they were not surprised by the heavy police presence outside Bulson-Bratton’s residence.

A nearby resident, Almond, says: “There are police there at least once a week.”

“I knew that house was trouble, there was a lot of violence around it on a regular basis,” says Eller-Isaacs.

PPB members seized a semi-automatic weapon, 2 holsters, firearm magazines, one ammunition and a mobile phone.

Bulson-Bratton was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of:

Robbery in the first degree (2 counts), Robbery in the second degree (2 counts),

Unlawful Use of a Weapon (2 counts), Menacing (2 counts), Felon in Possession of a Firearm (2 counts), Burglary in the First Degree, Escape in the Third Degree, Resisting Arrest, Interference with a peace officer, Assault on a Law Enforcement Animal, second degree assault and parole violation.
