Former Australia captain tips India youngster to shine Down Under

Jurel made his Test debut against England in Rajkot earlier this year, claiming a catch and a wicket when he replaced Pant, also contributing 46 runs with the bat after finishing at number 8 during complete victory in India.

An innings of 90 followed in the ensuing Test in Ranchi, with Jurel averaging an impressive 63.33 from three Test appearances against England earlier this year.

Ranking of the World Test Championship

Paine knows Jurel will face a step up in class if he is selected to play the crucial ICC World Test Championship clash against Australia, but believes he is up to the task and will suit the fast conditions expected in Perth.

“He’s 23 and has played three Test matches but he’s shown a class above all his peers to be fair and he’s handled the pace and bounced really well, which can be unusual for an Indian player” , Paine said of Jurel.

“Keep an eye on him this summer. I think it will impress a lot of Australian fans.

“Even though it will be another step up from the big three (Cummins, Starc and Hazlewood), he looks like he has the game to play Test cricket.”
