Maharashtra Election 2024: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delegation comprising Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, party leaders Arun Singh, Shehzad Poonawalla and Om Pathak visited the Election Commission of India (ECI) in New Delhi on Thursday. The visit was in connection with Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi’s remarks at a recent election rally in Mumbai.

Addressing the media outside the ECI office, Arjun Ram Meghwal said, “Today, I visited the ECI office. I told ECI that on November 6, LoP Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi tried to lie again for the Maharashtra elections, tried to put states ahead, waved the Constitution and lied again that BJP is out to destroy the Constitution . This is false. I said this should be stopped.

The BJP delegation demanded an FIR against the Congress leader, as Meghwal added, “We have also told the Commission that Rahul Gandhi is used to doing this and does not discourage it despite warnings and notices… This does not come under in the definition of fair choices. I said that an FIR be lodged against Rahul Gandhi under sec 353 of the NBS…”

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said, “Today a delegation led by Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, BJP MP Arun Singh and other leaders reached the Election Commission as Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi is not following the Constitution, putting under question mark constitutional institutions and violate the constitutional. norms. He made such statements that the Constitution was in danger. Although he has been warned by the Election Commission, he is making false statements which are creating confusion among people… We have now requested the Election Commission to register a case and take strict action against him”.

Maharashtra Elections 2024: Rahul Gandhi claims projects ‘plucked’ from Maharashtra to give to Gujarat

The BJP’s complaint related to a speech delivered by Rahul Gandhi on November 6 during an election rally in Mumbai. At the rally, Gandhi alleged that Apple iPhones and Boeing jets were being manufactured in other states at Maharashtra’s expense, accusing the BJP of favoring certain states.

“These projects are generating employment for five million youths who were snatched away from you and given to you in Gujarat,” he remarked.

Criticizing the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Rahul Gandhi had said, “There is a battle of ideology in the country. On one side is BJP-RSS. On the other side is the INDIA alliance. On one hand there is Ambedkar ji’s Constitution which has unity, equality, love and respect. On the other hand, there are the BJP-RSS people, who want to destroy the Constitution. But they (BJP-RSS) are not saying it openly, because if they speak it openly, then the whole country will stand against them”.

Elections to the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly are scheduled for November 20, with counting of votes to be held three days later.
