A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical includes a book by Aurin Squire and a sheet music of several songs Armstrong made famous, including “Hello, Dolly!” — the title track for the Barbra Streisand-led 1969 film adaptation of the musical that Armstrong sang on screen.

Iglehart, who won a Tony Award for portraying the Genius in Broadway’s Aladdin, he looks unrecognizable as Armstrong, transforming into the beloved performer. But he doesn’t just star in the musical; he also co-directs it with Christian Sajous. Tony Award nominee Christopher Renshaw is credited as lead director.

In October, Iglehart spoke to PEOPLE about stepping into the role of co-director for the Broadway transfer after helming the show in pre-Broadway runs in New Orleans and Chicago.

“I wasn’t going to direct it, but once we started working on the show, when we were out of town, we had a lot of ideas,” Iglehart recalled. “And they said, ‘Okay, you have a lot of opinions, but your opinions are pretty good. You seem to have a knack for putting things together. what do you think Would you be interested in joining the creative team?” ”

“It was a really fun time,” he said of the process. “I love creating new musicals or new shows. There’s something about getting the words together on the page, pulling them all apart, and then putting it all back together and going. “Okay, let’s see what we have.” There’s something really magical about it.”
