Driver hospitalized after crash in Cayuga County

The King Ferry Fire Department, with assistance from the Genoa Volunteer Fire Department, responded to a single vehicle accident on Route 34B near McGarr Farms early this morning. At approximately 8:15 a.m., a southbound pickup truck left the roadway, struck and clipped a utility pole, then crossed the highway before coming to rest on the east side of the road.

Emergency personnel determined that the driver, who was the sole occupant, required medical attention. The individual was safely removed from the vehicle and transported by Southern Cayuga Instant Aid, Inc. to Cayuga Medical Center for further evaluation.

While the King Ferry Fire Department handled the scene, the Genoa crew was released once adequate resources were confirmed. The New York State Police are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the accident. NYSEG has been notified and will replace the damaged utility pole.
