WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) – One person is dead after a head-on collision involving two vehicles Saturday night on South Franklin Street, according to the Whiteville Police Department.

Officers responded to the scene around 6:17 p.m. and found that a 2017 Jeep driven by Tanya Norris and a 2009 Dodge driven by Jacqueline Strickland had collided head-on. Strickland suffered fatal injuries in the crash.

Whiteville Police are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.

Authorities are urging members of the community to report unsafe driving behavior or suspected traffic violations by calling 911 as part of the department’s “Partner in Policing” initiative.
