Tuskegee University shooting: 12 people shot, 18-year-old killed in shooting at Tuskegee University in Alabama; 1 arrested

One person was killed and several others, including students, were injured in a barrage gunfire broke out early Sunday on the Tuskegee University campus in Alabama, marking the school’s centennial homecoming festivities, authorities said.

The shooting took place around 1:40 a.m. on the Macon County campus as homecoming activities, including a Saturday afternoon football game between Tuskegee and Miles College in Alabama, were wrapping up, officials said.

16 people were injured, twelve of whom were shot, according to the Alabama Bureau of Law Enforcement Investigations.

An 18-year-old man died on the spot.

A man was arrested and charged with possession of a machine gun in connection with the shooting, authorities said in an update Sunday afternoon.

According to broadcasts provided by Broadcastify, multiple shooters were suspected to have been involved. Officials have not confirmed.

“There’s going to be two shooters right now, maybe more,” an officer said in a radio call, according to broadcasts provided by Broadcastify.

The campus shooting resulted in the “death of an individual outside the university,” the university said in a statement released early Sunday.

“The parents of this person have been notified,” the statement said. “Several others, including students from Tuskegee University, were injured and are receiving treatment at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika and Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery.”

Several videos posted on social media captured what appeared to be numerous gunshots and showed people diving to the ground or taking cover in vehicles.

At the request of the Macon County Sheriff, special agents from ALEA’s Bureau of Investigation are investigating the shooting and working to identify the suspects.

“Special agents are still in the process of gathering and reviewing information regarding the sequence of events that ultimately led to the shooting. The scene has now been secured by multiple law enforcement agencies. No arrests have been made at this time.” THERE. said.

University officials added, “The university is in the process of finalizing student accountability and notifying parents. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.”
