John Ardolino, of South Hempstead, accused of hitting woman with his vehicle after parking lot incident in Oceanside

A South Hempstead man has been charged with assault after he struck a woman with his vehicle during an altercation in a parking lot in Oceanside Saturday afternoon, Nassau police said.

John Ardolino, 41, of Fern Street, hit a 28-year-old woman who tried to take a photo of his license plate after punching her. The incident happened in the parking lot of a mall on Long Beach Road, according to police.

Police said Ardolino honked his Nissan horn at the woman and blocked her Jeep from backing out of a parking spot shortly after 1 p.m. Saturday. He then got out of the vehicle and hit her window before opening the door, grabbed the woman’s arm and tried to “slam her with a closed fist,” police said.

The unidentified woman, who left her vehicle to photograph Ardolino’s license plate, was thrown from the hood of Ardolino’s vehicle after he hit her before driving off, police said. The woman was taken to an area hospital for treatment of neck and back pain, according to police.

Ardolino was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree menacing and leaving the scene of an accident, police said. He is expected to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday morning.
